The Greater Binghamton Futbol Club (GBFC) had
its humble beginnings in late 2011 when principal owner, Bahij Kashou and
minority owner Chris Riley took a leap of faith in the Greater Binghamton
soccer community to enter a team in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL).
The entrance into the league was no small matter with a business plan, vision
for the future, facility review and thousands of dollars of investment to be
accepted by the league as an expansion team for the 2012 season.
2012 saw GBFC entered in the Great Lakes Conference to compete against FC
Buffalo, Erie Admirals, AFC Cleveland, and Detroit City FC. The first year
squad, led by Coach Hristos Dimitriou and assistants Al Mydlinski and Tim
Schum, posted a 2-8-4 record with an appearance in the Conference Semi-Finals
against the Erie Admirals. GBFC lost the match 1-0 to the eventual Conference
winners. That loss was a sign of the future strength of the GBFC team and
